TREASURER |
 |
The
Treasurer's Office, under the supervision of John L. Frakes,
handles all monies coming into and going out of the City.
This office also maintains the accounting system for the City.
A
major function of the Treasurer's Office is tax billing and
collection. The City Treasurer collects taxes for the City of
Parchment, the Parchment School District, the Parchment Community
Library, Kalamazoo Valley Community College, K-RESA, Kalamazoo
County, and the State of Michigan. Some of these taxes are billed
in the summer and some are billed in the winter.
Summer
tax bills are mailed on July1st and due without penalty on August
14th of each year. Winter tax bills are mailed December 1st
and due without penalty on February 14th.
If
you have an escrow account with your bank or mortgage company,
the tax bill will be sent to them only if they request it, otherwise
all tax bills are sent to the owner of record.
On
March 1st of each year, unpaid tax bills for real property are
transferred to the Kalamazoo County Treasurer's Office for collection.
Real
& Personal property is valued by the Assessor's office each
year on December 31st. Notices of this assessment are sent to
each property owner the first part of February. This assessment
can be appealed at the Board of Review meetings held in March.
