The purpose of hydrant flushing is to remove rust and sediment from the City water lines. You should be aware that during hydrant flushing or during a power outage the water pumps increase water flow which stirs up sediment in the pipes producing discolored water lasting approximately 12-24 hours. This sediment may stain clothing during wash cycles and caution should be taken. Any questions should be directed to the Parchment Water Department.
